Spain will be the guest of honor at FIL Guadalajara 2024
Spain will be the guest country in 2024 at the International Book Fair (FIL) in Guadalajara (Mexico).
Spain will be the guest country in 2024 at the International Book Fair (FIL) of Guadalajara (Mexico), the most important meeting in Spanish in the sector, announced the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta.
In the Senate Culture Committee, Iceta has advanced that Spain will have a special presence at the fair in two years, a role that has been reserved this 2022 to the Emirate of Sharjah, with an approach to Arab culture.
The Guadalajara FIL, which combines publishing business and cultural festival received 2021 almost 252,000 people, a drop in public due to COVID-19, which made them close in deficit, although there were more sales than in 2019.
In the book sector, Iceta has defended that the pandemic has shown that those book companies that had already started a digital and sustainable transformation have been able to cope better with the crisis than those that had not yet done so.
«Therefore, all companies in the field of books and publishing (distributors, logistics, graphic arts, bookstores, publishers) must undertake this transformation in-depth: to recover, to gain competitiveness in the international arena and to be better prepared for future crises,» said the minister.
