Representatives of different professional profiles in the book sector share their experience

‘Las Mujeres de la Feria’ is part of the program that the Madrid Book Fair develops outside its 17 days of celebration in El Retiro.
We echo this news published by the Madrid Book Fair:
Last March 14 was held ‘Women of the Fair’, a round table moderated by Eva Orúe, director of the Madrid Book Fair, brought together several representatives of different professional profiles linked to this annual event with reading. It took place at the All in One center of CaixaBank, the official sponsor of the fair.
Participants included Nuria Barrios, writer, and translator; Valeria Correa Fiz, writer and writing teacher; Marina Sanmartín, bookseller and writer; and Pilar Álvarez, editor. All of them shared their experiences related to the fair, which allowed the attendees to experience it from the point of view of its protagonists.
Here we summarize some of their reflections:
Nuria Barrios
«The Madrid Book Fair is the Retiro itself, the trees and the books feed very well (…), it combines very well what literature always has to have, which is the pleasure of reading, and that is also provided by the environment of El Retiro».
Valeria Correa
«The Madrid Book Fair stages a verse by Luis Rosales: «I look at my books as the trees look at their leaves».
Marina Sanmartín
«Apart from being a meeting place, the Madrid Book Fair is a place of discovery. It is an agora to talk about books».
Pilar Álvarez
«It is the moment when I come into direct contact with readers. It is where you learn that books are sold one by one, a truism that you have to live to believe it».
The conversation also focused on what is behind a book, its relevance as a cultural industry in which book tubers also coexist, and on the power of book clubs to escape the dictatorship of novelty.
One of the strategic axes of the Madrid Book Fair is to value and highlight the role of women in the book and publishing industry.
