FIL Guadalajara to operate without a president until 2025

The functions of the presidency will be assumed by the director of the FIL, Marisol Schulz.

As of the 2023 edition and for the remainder of the administration of the Rector General of the University of Guadalajara (until 2025), Dr. Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí announces that he will not exercise his authority to appoint the president of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL).

As a tribute, the place of the presidency at FIL Guadalajara will remain empty. Its functions will be assumed by the director, Marisol Schulz, and all the great work team of the fair. «It’s like when sports teams retire the number of a historic player, to remember his exploits and emphasize that this player is irreplaceable. That is what Mr. Raúl Padilla is for us: irreplaceable. That is why I have made this decision,» said the Rector General.

The operational, administrative, and legal functions within the Board of Directors will not be affected in any way, since the responsibilities and decisions that previously fell to the president will be assumed by FIL’s director, Marisol Schulz Manaut. According to FIL Guadalajara’s bylaws, the appointment of the fair’s president is the responsibility of the Rector General of the University of Guadalajara. Therefore, it will be the next general rector, who will take office in 2025, who will appoint the new president of the second-largest book fair in the world.
