Barcelona to host the International Congress of the International Organization for Young People’s Books in 2028

The choice of the city of Barcelona as the venue for the 41st International Congress of Ibby has the support of the Government of Spain.


Barcelona will host the 41st International Congress of Ibby (the International Organization for Young People’s Books) in 2028. The announcement was made during the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (Italy) in an event attended by María José Gálvez, General Director of Books and Reading Promotion.

The candidacy has the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sport and will be a clear endorsement of Spain as the host of an International Congress of reflection and proposals of enormous importance for the sector. It will also be a magnificent showcase for the children’s and young people’s literature produced in our country.

In addition, the meeting of Ibby’s Executive Committee is scheduled to take place in Madrid this September.

The International Board for Books for Young People (IBBY) is a non-profit organization. It is made up of associations and individuals from all over the world committed to the idea of promoting the encounter between books and children. Among its main objectives are to promote international understanding through books for children and young people, to provide children and young people in all countries with opportunities to access books of literary and artistic quality, and to encourage the publication and distribution of quality books for children and young people, especially in developing countries.
