Message for the 40th anniversary, by Antonio Mª Ávila, director of the Federation of Publishers’ Guilds of Spain.

«LIBER celebrates 40 years. It was created by Pancho Pérez González and Rafael Martínez Alés to maintain commercial relations between the publishing industry on both sides of the Atlantic during the severe economic crisis that hit Latin America in the early 1980s. That initial objective was far exceeded and soon LIBER was consolidated as a reference event for the book world. In times of confusion and subsequent crisis, Liber has demonstrated the strength of the sector. Its contribution goes beyond the strictly commercial sphere. It is an excellent platform for sales and internationalization, but it is also an observatory of trends, a thermometer of activity, and a meeting point for all areas of the book.»
